Customer Insight: Christine Guttenbeil | Make Your Move

August 5th, 2025

What’s your biz all about? Give us the lowdown!

Make Your Move – founded by Christine Guttenbeil – is redefining workplace health and safety through a holistic, people-first approach. Grounded in the Hauora model, we recognise that true wellbeing is more than just physical; it includes mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

We go beyond reactive injury management. Our mission is to build thriving workplaces where people feel valued, supported, and empowered to perform at their best — and return home safely every day.

Inspired by the values of manaakitanga (care and hospitality) and whakatōhea (unity and collective strength), we craft tailored solutions that nurture both individual wellbeing and team resilience.

Our services include:

  • Comprehensive workplace health, safety, and wellbeing programmes
  • Integrated occupational health solutions
  • Customised strategies that lower risk, reduce absenteeism, and foster a culture of care and excellence

Make Your Move – where safety meets purpose, and people come first.

What made you take the leap and start your business?

To be honest, it started with finding a way to balance work around the responsibilities of parenting. With only limited time between daycare and school drop-offs, I initially began contracting to create the flexibility I needed.

At the same time, I brought with me over 15 years of experience in occupational rehabilitation across New Zealand and Australia, with a strong passion for helping clients recover from physical injuries — particularly those in heavy industries like construction, civil infrastructure, and other high-risk environments.

Over time, I recognised a clear gap in the system: most workplaces were focused on reactive injury management rather than prevention. I wanted to shift that mindset by placing pre-injury prevention and early risk management at the heart of business practices.

This vision grew into Make Your Move — a business built on practical tools and streamlined, accessible solutions, available via app and online, to support safer, healthier, and more sustainable workplaces for both businesses and their people.

Hit any big milestones or wins recently? Share the good news!

A recent win has been the ability to connect with a wide range of people and work environments, learning how to tailor meaningful interventions that make a real difference in high-risk industries.

But just as rewarding has been creating a business model and system that gives me the flexibility to be present for my kids — attending school trips, doing drop-offs, and even facilitating playdates. It’s incredibly fulfilling to run a purpose-driven business while still being hands-on in family life.

Best advice for small biz owners or freelancers?

It’s definitely a rollercoaster, so having a mentor and the right support network is key. There will be highs and lows, but having people you can turn to for guidance, encouragement, and perspective makes all the difference. Don’t be afraid to ask for help — and remember to back yourself along the way.

What’s your #1 productivity hack?

I rely heavily on my calendar to structure my day and set daily billable targets to stay focused and accountable. I’m also exploring AI tools to boost efficiency — especially for note-taking, reporting, and streamlining admin tasks. Leveraging tech has made a big difference in managing workload and saving time.

Why TW – What do you love about us?

I was honestly over working from home — I missed having a proper “work-type” environment. Since joining The Workshop, my productivity and daily routines have improved significantly. It’s been great to have that mental separation between work and home… plus, I don’t have to worry about the mess at home anymore — win-win!

Coworking vs. home or café – what’s the real difference?

What I love most about The Workshop is the sense of community, the positive energy, and the inspiring space that makes getting things done so much easier (and more enjoyable).

Three words to describe The Workshop – go!

Fun, enjoyable and consistent

Someone thinking about joining? What would you say to them?

Definitely give it go and come to Avondale on Wednesday’s for Tracey’s morning tea.
