What’s your biz all about? Give us the lowdown!
Hi! I’m Nick, and I work with the Adventure Engineers at Stabicraft — an innovative boat builder based out of Invercargill, New Zealand.
I’m a content creator with a background in newsrooms, toy companies, and film sets, now wielding a drone, a cine camera, and a passion for storytelling. If it moves, has sound, or makes you feel something — chances are it came through my department.
What made you take the leap into this role?
This role is something I never imagined having — or even knew existed — five years ago. After leaving a job that didn’t feel quite right, I took a leap and joined a sailing trip overseas as a filmmaker. That experience completely shifted my direction.
Now I’m combining my media skills and love for the outdoors in a job that allows me to travel, tell stories, and follow my curiosity — sometimes in wonderfully unexpected directions.
Hit any big milestones or wins recently? Share the good news!
We just launched three new boat models, and I helped lead the video campaigns for all of them — my first time with the responsibility of the media for a full product launch. It was a wild learning curve, but incredibly rewarding. I also ticked off a personal goal by filming at the very top of New Zealand — Stewart Island is next.
Best advice for small biz owners or freelancers?
Take the chance. I couldn’t have predicted this path, but following my gut — and stumbling more than once — got me to something better than I imagined.
Kierkegaard said, “Life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards.” And how annoyingly true that is, so keep going.
What’s your #1 productivity hack?
I stopped seeing productivity as being tied to an eight-hour cage. If I finish earlier, I reward myself with guilt-free time off — and that makes me even more focused when I’m on.
Why TW – What do you love about us?
Remote work gives me freedom, but it can get isolating. The Workshop Ponsonby offers something more: community, energy, and a creative buzz. As a people person, this place lifts my work and my mood.
Coworking vs. home or café – what’s the real difference?
Compared to cafés, The Workshop is built for how I work — comfy, practical, and full of people doing cool, non-traditional things. I’ve had spontaneous chats that sparked new ideas, and being surrounded by other self-starters helps keep me sharp.
How’s the Workshop vibe helped you level up your work?
We feel really welcomed at The Workshop and love its energy, and this impacts a lot in our work and productivity. We feel happy to come here every day, and enjoy the weekly catchups, talks and the space.
Three words to describe The Workshop – go!
It’s welcoming, comfortable, and social. I felt at home from day one.
Someone thinking about joining? What would you say to them?
If you’re thinking about joining? Come for a day — you’ll know if it’s right straight away. I did… and I haven’t looked back since.
